How do you pick your favourite artist and does it fit with the work you produce ?

I have been trying to start my 1000 word Design Movements essay and am not finding it easy. As a mature student not fresh from doing A-Level art I am having to look at a whole lot of art movements. This is what i'm struggling with:

In this essay I need to reflect on my work and consider how it sits within the wider world of design. So a lot of ideas are in my head and I've decided to tackle them by asking myself fundamental questions:

• I like to produce repeat patterns, who does that?

• I like landscapes, who does that?

• I like bright colours, who does that?

• I like stick and glue, who does that?

• What do I like on the wall?

• Would I have it in my house?

• Would I wear that pattern, if not who would.
